William (Bill) Earl Lapp

As written by his daughter, Debi Bergeson

My father was 29 years old at the time of his death. He was involved in a logging truck accident in the Seely Swan area five miles south of Condon.

Our family consisted of Bill [William], Wendy, Debi [me] and my younger brother, Mikey. My memories of my father are sketchy in volume yet vivid in detail. I was ten years old when my Dad died.

I remember my dad as a self-proclaimed "wild man". He liked to have fun! Dad raced a stock car at Big Sky Speedway in Kalispell on the weekends and drove lugging truck during the week. We went to Foy's Lake on hot summer days to cool off, but not to the dock, we'd scratch the heck out of our legs climbing down the embankment to get a "good" spot to jump in [or get thrown in if you weren't to the bottom first]. I specifically remember the excitement of the Spring that the winter that Dad correctly guessed the exact date that all four tires would touch the ground after the snow bank melted, to wind the green Vega from a used car lot up in Columbia Falls. It's funny the things that you remember from when you were little. I'm glad to have such fond memories of my father!
