Victor Clifford Sjordal As told by his daughter, Pauline Sjordal. My father was born in Surrey, North Dakota. He grew up in Polson, Kremlin and Havre. On 9/27/1940, he married Luella Olson [my mom] in Havre. He was employed by the Great Northern Railroad and worked as a chief engineer at the power plant in Grand Forks, North Dakota for many years. He was a friend to everyone he met. My dad was killed ten years after my mom. A Kalispell woman, driving drunk, struck him on Halloween while he was crossing Center Street near Kalispell Center Mall. It’s estimated that the vehicle was traveling 60 miles per hour. The same emergency medical technician that had worked on my mother also responded to my dad. Center Street was well known at that time; postmen were forbidden to cross it on foot because it was so dangerous. Locals drove to the mall to avoid crossing that street. I was instrumental in alerting the town council to its hazards and getting a pedestrian walkway built. |
