Peggy Sue Edwards Lucille and her husband were married 15 years and could not have children of their own, so they adopted two. The first was a little girl and they named her Peggy Sue. On their way to pick up their baby girl, the Edwards got caught in a snow storm between Circle and Vida. They spent most of the day there, waiting for the snow plow. Lucille thinks Peggy was pretty special. She was a straight “A” student and valedictorian of her class. She went to state in piano and got a superior rating. She made all her own clothes except jeans. She was a self taught artist. She was studying to be a petroleum engineer at Butte Tech. Peggy was killed during a snow storm on that same stretch of highway between Circle and Vida. She was riding with two friends when they got stuck in a snow bank 13 miles north of Circle, MT. The girls were helping the driver, a boy, shovel the car out of the snow. He told them to get in the car as he would have the car out in a few minutes. Peggy went to get in the passenger side of the car and he screamed, “Look out!” because the Miles City school bus was coming too fast. They passed the car on the wrong side and Peggy jumped on the hood, but the bus pulled her under. She was killed immediately. |
