Delmar & Marlene Fenger Sent in by their daughter, Brenda Bauer I lost both my mom and dad on December 23, 1990. They were on their way to church in the Swan Valley. Icy roads were a factor. Nobody in the other vehicle was hurt. Everyone who knew my parents would say they were great people with big hearts! They always thought of others first and loved people of all ages. They also had a great sense of humor which was passed down through the family. At the time of their death, they had two grandsons who were 2 and 3 ½ years old. They were so proud of them and wanted to see them every chance they could. Fortunately, I lived a mile away, so we did see them almost every day and they were able to share the many firsts our boys experienced. They were also blessed to have all three of their children live in the same town. We were a very close knit family. Because the accident happened just into Lake County and is several miles from where I live, I don't go to the scene very often. The last time we drove past the white crosses, they were looking weathered and one was missing, we thought. I have to say that I think a lot deeper now when I see the crosses on the highways. I know what a great loss it is and that someone is hurting just like I was. It took me several years to come around to talk about dad and mom and the accident. I have so many great memories of them and they were the best parents. They taught us a lot about love, honesty and about morals. I wish I would have told them how much I appreciated them before their deaths. My dad, Delmar, was born in Shelby. He served in the Marine Corps. He was an independent carpet layer in the Kalispell area. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed woodworking, having fun with family and friends, and being a handyman. My mom, Marlene, was born in Bagley, MN. She attended Shelby schools. She was a devoted homemaker who enjoyed caring for others; she also enjoyed bingo, music and crafts of all types. She met my dad in Shelby and they were married on 7/27/1961. My folks will be loved and remembered for their involvement in church activities and for their dedication to their family. |
