Eunice Johnson

Eunice was killed in a car accident at the intersection of U.S. Hwy. 287 and MT Hwy. 200 [Bowman's Corner]. She was traveling with two of her close friends, Madeleine Murrish and Audrey Anderson. They were headed from Anaconda to Choteau for an Eastern Star meeting which they all frequently did together and enjoyed very much.

Eunice's car collided with another car and all three women died on impact just after 11:00 a.m. The three fatalities put the death toll at 149 for the year.

Eunice was born in Hartford, Michigan. The family moved to Montana in 1915 and homesteaded near Molt. After her father's death, Eunice and her mother moved to Anaconda in 1925. She graduated from high school in 1928.

Eunice married Charles G. Johnson on September 2, 1928 in Aberdeen, South Dakota. They lived in Anaconda where they started Park Motors in 1933. After her husband's death in 1979, Eunice continued working as a bookkeeper at Park Motors until her death.

She enjoyed ceramics, embroidery work and traveling. She was a 50 year member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was a state librarian for them also. She was involved with the Anaconda Soroptomist Club and Daughters of the Nile. She received the Elks Distinguished Citizen of the Year Award in 1983.
