Anna Marie Laird May

Sent in by her mother, Pat Laird

Anna's untimely death stunned the small community of Joplin. She was barely 21 years old. She left behind a husband and a two year old daughter who was her pride and joy.

Anna grew up in Chester and graduated from high school in 1976. Some of her activities at CHS included Pep Club, girls' basketball and "Coyote" yearbook staff. She loved basketball and participated all four years while in high school. She remained a loyal Coyote fan since graduation and helped with the girl's elementary basketball program since that time.

A head on collision between two vehicles seven miles south of Chester on US Hwy. 2 at 1:25 a.m. on Friday, April 13, took Anna's life. According to the Liberty County Sheriff's office, the accident occurred when Anna's vehicle, a 1979 Courier pickup, was traveling westbound toward Chester, while the other vehicle was reportedly in the eastbound lane. Anna's truck was found in the westbound lane facing east. The second vehicle was found on the south shoulder facing in a northwest direction. There were no skid marks to help in the investigation of the accident.
